The Rich Can't Buy This

What’s the ultimate status symbol? It’s not money, fame, or privilege—it’s something far more valuable. Plus, a key coaching lesson: why helping too much can actually hold your clients back.

Happy 2-Tips Tuesday!

Here are two ideas to consider this week.

By Jennifer Broxterman, RD

1. Help, But Don’t Take Over

It’s natural to want to give your nutrition clients all the answers. You know exactly what they need to do—eat more protein, plan ahead, build better habits. But if you do all the thinking (and problem-solving) for them, you rob them of the chance to take ownership of their health.

James Clear puts it best:

"It's nice to have a little help, but we often resent when someone else tries to do it all for us. Each individual wants to make their own dreams a reality. If someone hands you the whole thing on a silver platter, they gift you the result, but rob you of the accomplishment."

As a coach, your job is to guide, not control. Ask questions that encourage them to think. Let them struggle (a little) so they can grow. Support them, but don’t carry them. When they own their progress, that’s when the real transformation happens.

2. The Rich Can’t Buy This…

“Mastery is the best goal because the rich can’t buy it, the impatient can’t rush it, the privileged can’t inherit it, and nobody can steal it. You can only earn it through hard work. Mastery is the ultimate status.”

– Derek Sivers, Entrepreneur and Author
